Hillary Rodham Pretends

Really it is deceit, or a form of delusional denial...
"I'm very proud that all the Democrats are saying the same thing and that's what we should all be working toward, and that's to begin to change this policy and get us on the right track."

Did you hear that Sen. Lieberman?

Mrs. Clinton hopes Liberal Democrats still believe in big bold lies, as she tries to portray herself as the same as someone, who did not vote to authorize the use of force in Iraq.

But Hillary Rodham endorsed Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Blaming it on Karl Rove might be more effective.

Pink Burkhas And Tin Foil Hats

The mighty Sweetness & Light...
'Handcuffed, I was driven to the Capitol Police station. As the two hours of processing at that station ended, a member of Congressman Conyers’ staff came to the station and paid the $35 fine for my “disorderly conduct.” The police officer who received the money from the Congressman’s staff member said that was the first time in her memory that a member of Congress had paid the fine of an activist.

Later I found out that other activists (Medea Benjamin and other members of Codepink Women for Peace) had been in the Judiciary Committee room earlier in the morning before the meeting began, introduced themselves to the witnesses and sat down. They were told by the hearing room staffer not to sit in particular chairs and later were told to leave the room.

The police removed the activists from the room. As they were forced into the hallway, Congressman John Murtha walked by. The activists appealed to Murtha for help to let them stay in the hearing. Murtha said “This is not a police state and you should be in the hearing room,” and called the House of Representatives’ Sergeant at Arms and told him to let the activists back into the hearing room.'

John Murtha claimed, the USA is not a police state with GW Bush as President, and a liberal moonbeam believed him?

Do these 'women for peace' ever protest against the mass murder committed by Radical Muslim Militants?

Will Code Pink be organizing a memorable display, to condemn the Iranian kidnapping of some of Great Britain's Finest?

The Democrat Disaster

The Children are at play...
"The second is a struggle against recklessly increased government spending and rising entitlements, and the higher taxes that necessarily accompany it. Higher taxes gradually destroy our economic power at home, as they have whittled away economic power in Europe, according to Nobel laureate economist Edward Prescott of Arizona State University.

It's significant that on March 14, the day before the House Appropriations Committee approved the Iraq supplemental funding bill, the Senate Budget Committee, led by Senator Conrad, a Democrat of North Dakota, adopted its fiscal year 2008 budget resolution. The bill would result in a tax increase of almost $400 billion over the 5-year period beginning in 2008, by failing to make permanent the temporary tax cuts enacted in the years 2001 to 2003, scheduled to expire in 2010.

This would be a huge increase, dwarfing President Clinton's tax increases, which raised $241 billion over five years. Tax revenues would rise to 20% of the gross domestic product from 18.4% and would affect families at all income levels. The rate for those in the lowest tax bracket, now 10%, would revert back to 15%. The top rate similarly would rise to 40% from 35%. Numerous academic studies, such as those by Princeton University economics professor Harvey Rosen, show that tax increases discourage work effort, thereby reducing economic growth."

The Clinton Comedy

Run Hillary run...
The defendants in a lawsuit filed by a former New York Post gossip writer, Jared Paul Stern, include names as bold-faced as they come: President and Senator Clinton.

Mr. Stern, who wrote for the Post's Page Six column, accused the Clintons yesterday of using their influence to spur on a federal investigation into whether Mr. Stern blackmailed a frequent gossip subject. The investigation, which did not result in charges, began last year with allegations by a California billionaire, Ronald Burkle, who is a friend of Mr. Clinton's. Mr. Burkle claimed to have videotaped Mr. Stern as the writer offered him favorable coverage in return for cash.

Mr. Stern has denied any wrongdoing and has long promised to sue Mr. Burkle. In yesterday's legal complaint, filed in state court in Manhattan, Mr. Stern accused the Clintons of using "their influence and position with federal authorities in New York to further" Mr. Burkle's allegations against him.

When called for comment, a spokesman for Mr. Clinton, Jay Carson, said: "I'm not going to dignify this thing with a comment."

Mr. Carson said he spoke on behalf of Mrs. Clinton, as well.

In the suit, Mr. Stern accused the Clintons of having a personal motive in seeing him investigated. The couple, the suit alleges, sought to "destroy Page Six of the New York Post and the New York Post in general."

The paper, which has been critical of Mr. Clinton, was "perceived as a significant impediment" to the "Clintons' return to the White House," the suit alleges. By going after the gossip writer, the legal complaint claims, the Clintons intended to "divert and intimidate journalists who might attempt to report" on any scandals "uncovered about Hillary Clinton as she runs for the presidency in 2008."

The Folly Grows

'A German woman judge has refused a Moroccan-born woman permission to file for divorce by interpreting the Koran as allowing husbands to beat their wives.'

This mindless ruling is stunning...

Denying someone a divorce, because the State believes a religion gives the spouse, a legal authority to employ physical abuse?

Hoping, it is not a bitter taste of things to come.
'African Muslims Bring Polygamy To New York City'

Many Liberal Supreme Court Justices, appointed by Democrat Partisans, believe they should utilize conceptions from all over the planet, instead of only interpreting the US Constitution in establishing legal precedent.

Imagine the bizarre irony in a sad future...

Could Liberal Feminists who supported the Democrat Party for years, filling the Courts with Liberal Judges, be unwittingly encouraging a ruling some day, which considers the beating of Women a legal right?

Is this progressive justice?

Maybe it is a mad world afterall.

"But apart from that, if you talk about using it constitutional law, you know, you talk about it's nice to know that, you know, that we're on the right track, that we have a same moral and legal framework as the rest of the world. But we don't have the same moral and legal framework as the rest of the world, and never have. If you told the framers of the Constitution that we're after is to, you know, do something that will be just like Europe, they would have been appalled."

More irony?
'A new English-language interpretation of the Muslim Holy book the Koran challenges the use of words that feminists say have been used to justify the abuse of Islamic women.'

OLD SONG AND DANCE AGAIN

Former President Bill Clinton yesterday complained that “it’s just not fair” the way his wife, presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), is being depicted for her controversial Iraq war vote.

Bill pushes the spin, playing Hillary as a victim.

The Clinton deceit continues...

Hillary advocated for using force in Iraq, and soon the Clinton's will be blaming some form of a 'Rovian Right Wing Conspiracy' for her vote.

BUMP FOR IRONY:
* Via the all powerful Mr. Drudge:
"The move is a clear signal that Democrats have lost control of the House floor..."

The mighty Captain...
'The Democrats thought they rode to power on a wave of anti-war sentiment, but they have discovered that their victory had much more to do with Republican failures than with Democratic platforms. Most of their new members come from center-right districts where Democratic messages about corruption and abuses resonated - but where they see Congress' role in Iraq as limited at best. Boren represents a typical Democratic pickup district in that respect.

Now that the Democratic leadership has gone on record as wanting to limit options for victory in Iraq, Nancy Pelosi and company find that these new representatives will not play along with them. The Blue Dogs understand that timetables represent nothing more than defunding efforts under another name. They will not vote for anything that smells of defeat and retreat, and their numbers indicate that the Democratic supplemental - even filled with hometown pork for those on the fence - will likely fail.'

Reasoned minds can only hope...

Is it obvious?

Democrats are unethically trying to force the surrender of the USA, because of their obsessive, self serving, political greed.

The Freedom of the Iraqi People, the Future of the Free World, the Fight to stop Radical Muslim Militancy, isn't relevant to the Democrat Partisans, who remain bedevilled to destroy a Republican President.

Ms. Pelosi and Company crave power, oppressive taxation, appeasement, banning light bulbs, and the opportunity to slander any opposition to the Democrat Party.

The image of Speaker Nancy, posing with Children in the House when the Democrat Majority took power, was truly a prophetic metaphor.

The Liberal Children are lost in play...

THE DEMOCRAT DANCE

The old song and spin continues...
When Democrats were in the minority, they lambasted Republican tactics on the House floor, reserving particular vitriol for the GOP practice of holding votes open longer than the allotted time in order to round up enough support for victory.

Now in the majority and facing their first close vote with the $124 billion wartime spending bill, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) is leaving open the possibility that Democrats might extend the vote beyond the usual 15 minutes.

Asked Wednesday night whether Democrats would keep to the time limit, Hoyer paused, then pointed out that many votes can run a few minutes longer for various reasons. Pressed further by a reporter who pointed out that Democrats themselves had often criticized Republicans on this very point, Hoyer said, "It won't be open three hours. How about that?"

"How about 30 minutes?" the reporter asked.

"I won't guarantee it," Hoyer replied.

On their first day in the majority in January, Democrats amended the House rules to mandate that a vote "shall not be held open for the sole purpose of reversing the outcome of such vote..."

RIP

"My mother passed away three hours ago..."

'Catherine Seipp, a writer and media critic who became known in the 1990s for her pointed coverage of the Los Angeles Times in Buzz magazine, has died. She was 49...

On her blog, Cathy's World, at cathyseipp.net, Seipp revealed less than two years ago that she was fighting cancer: "I'm actually lucky still to be alive, given that I was diagnosed almost three and a half years ago," she wrote.

With characteristic humor, she said the situation "really has put a crimp in my usual Nietzschean sense of physical superiority."

...In addition to her daughter (Maia), Seipp is survived by her father, Harvey Seipp; mother, Claire Ungerleider; and sister, Michele Seipp.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Mt. Sinai Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles. Instead of flowers, Seipp had requested that people make donations to the Humane Society, www.hsus.org.'

The Big Green Swindle

Fascinating

The mighty Sweetness & Light with a moment from the past...
Democrats plan to undermine public confidence in President George W. Bush by challenging his credibility and raising doubts about America, sources within the party tell Capitol Hill Blue.

A multi-pronged attack against Republicans and the President will focus not only on economic issues, but question American values, raise doubts about how this country is viewed by other nations and question the patriotism of Bush and his party.

The extensive campaign, developed by senior Democratic consultants and party leaders, was launched last week with attacks on the Bush economic plan by Democratic presidential hopeful Rep. Richard Gephardt.

In coming weeks, Democratic elected officials will question the President’s intentions on the pending war with Iraq. Writers and broadcasters friendly to the Democratic cause have already been provided talking points suggesting the war is about oil, not terrorism.

“The talking points were developed before the end of last year and sent out to operatives and friendly media,” one Democratic consultant confided. “No Democratic member of Congress will question the President’s patriotism openly but we will use the media and other surrogates to raise doubts.”

Ship Of Fools

"Leading Democrats, including Senator Obama of Illinois, are distancing themselves from an essay published this week by one of their party's leading financiers that called for the Democratic Party to "liberate" itself from the influence of the pro-Israel lobby.

The article, by George Soros, published in the New York Review of Books, asserts that America should pressure Israel to negotiate with the Hamas-led unity government in the Palestinian territories regardless of whether Hamas recognizes the right of the Jewish state to exist. Mr. Soros goes on to say that one reason America has not embraced this policy is because of the influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee."

'One congressman, who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid retribution from leaders, bristled at how aggressively he was being pressured to vote for the bill, singling out Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) as especially forceful.

"I really resent this," the lawmaker said. "Rahm Emanuel told us a vote against this bill is a vote to give the Republicans victory."

The congressman also noted that Democratic leaders had "made clear" to him that they might yank funding requests he had made for projects in his district if he did not support the measure.

Democratic whips, all deputies of Clyburn, approached members on the House floor Monday night.

A jovial Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger went up to fellow Maryland Rep. Albert Wynn as he sat off the floor with a reporter and told Wynn that a vote against the bill was a vote for Republican victory. He waved a copy of the MoveOn.org press release backing the measure.

"Have you seen this?" Ruppersberger asked.

"Yeah, who did that?" replied Wynn, a member of the Out of Iraq Caucus.

"Some people we asked to put out a press release to get you to vote for the bill," Ruppersberger joked. He razzed the noncommittal Wynn a few moments longer, pretending to twist his arm, then headed off to reprise the routine with another Out of Iraq Caucus member, Maryland Rep. Elijah E. Cummings.'

Why We Fight

Insurgents in Iraq detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle with two children in the back seat after US soldiers let it through a Baghdad checkpoint over the weekend, a senior US military official said Tuesday.

The vehicle was stopped at the checkpoint but was allowed through when soldiers saw the children in the back, said Major General Michael Barbero of the Pentagon's Joint Staff.

"Children in the back seat lowered suspicion. We let it move through. They parked the vehicle, and the adults ran out and detonated it with the children in the back," Barbero said.

"It killed the two children inside as well as three other civilians in the vicinity. So, a total of five killed, seven injured," the official said.

SAVING LIVES

Ms. Pamela Hess is a rather interesting reporter.
Thankful for her refreshing honesty in this clip...

In this interview, Ms. Hess does not acknowledge the valid reasons for the mission in Iraq, and maintains some original cynical conceptions.

Perhaps, she did not want to distract from the message of the worthy effort being waged in Iraq today, or wished to project some image of journalistic objectivity.

Being moved by witnessing the honorable endeavor in Iraq, she suggests the mission has changed to a humanitarian one, which is now acceptable.

But the effort in Iraq has always been about saving lives...

The very same 'culture of death' Hess references, is the same mentality which produced 9-11.

The World could no longer live with this troubled Arab Region as it was, after the horrid attacks of 9-11, (and shouldn't have prior).

The USA had to try to end this industry of radical terrorism.

Creating reform, freedom, and hope in the Middle East, was essential for the future of the Free West and the rest of the World.

But this requires courage, leadership, patience, and painful sacrifice...

Saddam's monstrous dictatorship, a known criminal State separating Syria and Iran, was a very good place to start.

Ironically, Ms. Hess never mentioned al Qaeda's influence in Iraq.

We know al Qaeda, the departed killer Zarqawi being a prime example, encouraged violence, instability, and death, in an attempt to stop the building of a Free Democracy in Iraq.

Indeed, the mission in Iraq is about saving lives throughout the World, and it has never changed...

The USA's fight in the GWOT is an admirable endeavor, designed to stop Radical Islamic Militancy, which has no respect for life.

Socialism...
"Noticeably, the problems at Walter Reed are not with the doctors or medical care. The problems are with basic maintenance at the facility.

Unless U.S. Army generals are supposed to be spraying fungicide on the walls and crawling under beds to set rattraps, the slovenly conditions at Walter Reed are not their fault. The military is nominally in charge of Walter Reed, but — because of civil service rules put into place by Democrats — the maintenance crew can't be fired.

If the general "in charge" can't fire the people not doing their jobs, I don't know why he is being held responsible for them not doing their jobs.

You will find the exact same problems anyplace market forces have been artificially removed by the government and there is a total absence of incentives, competition, effective oversight, cost controls and so on. It's almost like a cause-and-effect thing."

CONSPIRACY?

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton raised eyebrows among Democratic insiders when Washington Post columnist Al Kamen reported that she dined last week at the 701 restaurant in downtown Washington with former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, his wife, Valerie Plame, and left-wing journalist Sidney Blumenthal.

Leading Democrats have stayed away from Wilson since a Senate Intelligence Committee report in 2004 discredited him. Blumenthal was known as a vicious attack man when he worked as an aide to President Bill Clinton late in his administration.

Clinton's choice of dining companions casts doubt on her attempted image modification into a centrist Democrat who wants to avoid the politics of personal destruction.

Then there are the Americans who rode in on buses (provided by who, I wonder?) who couldn't wait to condemn the very people they should be thanking for standing up for their right to protest, some sporting ghoulish, tasteless masks and signs. I wonder what John Edwards would have to say about that?"

'Gathering of Eagles outnumbered protesters at least three to one.'

Gathering of Eagles Website

'7. We vehemently oppose the notion that it is possible to “support the troops but not the war.” We are opposed to those groups who would claim support for the troops yet engage in behavior that is demeaning and abusive to the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform.

8. We believe in freedom at all costs, including our own lives. We served to protect the freedoms Americans enjoy, and we agree with Thomas Jefferson’s assertion that “From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

9. We will accept nothing less than total, unqualified victory in the current conflict. Surrender is not an option, nor is defeat.

10. We stand to challenge any group that seeks the destruction of our nation, its founding precepts of liberty and freedom, or those who have given of themselves to secure those things for another generation. We will be silent no more.'

'Of course, the Clintons always do. They predictably overreact and it gets them into trouble, avoidable trouble. Now the Clinton team is in a fever about her slippage in the polls and about the drift of Democrats away from her to other candidates.

So desperate has Hillary become that she is again speaking of the existence of a Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. When she visited this paranoia on the country in 1998 she became the butt of ridicule. Yet on the outer fringes of the Democratic Party there is the moron vote, which believes in such stuff. Today the moron voters are leery of Senator Clinton for her attempts at centrism.

So she dredges up her bizarre charge: "If anybody tells you there is no Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, tell them that New Hampshire has proven it in court." I do not know who this Mr. Hampshire is, but he probably has a large following among members of the Nudists for Peace crowd.'

Liberal Denial

Another must read by Dr. Sanity...
'The left refuses to accept such constraints on their religion, and have embraced postmodern rhetoric and politics with religious fervor in order to save their own sacred beliefs about socialism. This time instead of rescuing faith from reason and logic, they have managed to rescue science from it so they can make science whatever they want it to be.

It is immensely interesting to observe how the left's topsy-turvy thinking about this conundrum works: realistically, rationally, and logically the left finds itself unable to criticize the excesses of Islam in any way, shape or form--without exposing for even the most dim-witted to see, the fatal flaws and contradictions in their own religion--which disavows reality, reason, and logic.

Kant and his successors have never been able to explain away the formidible contradictions inherent in a philosophy that celebrates the irrational and the unreal at the expense of reason and reality; yet somehow expects to bring peace, harmony, productivity and progress to human living.

From all perspectives, postmodernism is pure bullshit.'

The mighty NB...
'CNBC’s Melissa Francis told “On the Money” viewers March 15 that their taxes were going to get hiked “if the Democrats get their way.” The fun twist? Francis and her colleagues couldn’t find any Democratic politician, strategist or even a think tank cohort to come on the show and tell the American people why raising their taxes would be a good idea.

“I don’t understand. How does raising taxes and stifling economic growth keep America great?” Francis asked her guests, Pat Toomey of the Club for Growth and Jack Burkman, a Republican strategist. The rest of the segment was shooting fish in a barrel, pointing to the economy’s strong growth following the 2003 tax rate cuts.'

This poster watched this interesting program last evening.

Amusing, but not surprising, the current Democrat Party remains entirely unethical, failing to be honest with the American Public.

Avoiding a discussion to 'take things away' from the American People, is just another concerning example of the DNC's folly.

If we do not rebuke the Democrat Party in 2008, the tax increases destined for this Country will be disastrous.

"Harry Reid's Plan to Withdraw U.S. Troops From Iraq by March 2008 Fails in Senate"

'Republicans handed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a defeat on the Iraq issue Thursday, voting down a proposal that would withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by March 31, 2008.'

The Party of Surrender and Sabotage continues to undermine for self interest, without any concern for the future of the Iraqi People, the Arab Region, the USA, or the Free World.

Thank You Senator McConnell

From the incredible Powerline...
'Speaking at the National Press Club in 2005, my good friend the Majority Leader himself said this: "As for setting a timeline, as we learned in the Balkans, that’s not a wise decision, because it only empowers those who don’t want us there, and it doesn’t work well to do that."

Six months after that, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Biden, said this: "A deadline for pulling out … will only encourage our enemies to wait us out" … it would be "a Lebanon in 1985. And God knows where it goes from there." That was our friend, Joe Biden, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

And three months later, Senator Clinton made the same point when she said, "I don’t believe it’s smart to set a date for withdrawal," said Senator Clinton. "I don’t think you should ever telegraph your intentions to the enemy so they can await you." That’s the Majority Leader, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, and a prominent Democrat presidential candidate.

Surely Senators Reid, Biden, and Clinton have not changed their minds about who would benefit the most if we set a date certain for withdrawal. They know just as well as I do that this is what the terrorists have been waiting for — and just what our allies in Iraq, and the entire region of the world have feared.'

Watching the Democrat Party undermining this Nation's admirable endeavors, for their own pathetic political ambition, is truly sickening.

Imagine a corrupt bunch of fools, actually working against the liberation of the oppressed, the development of democracy, and the defeat of terrorism.

This remarkable malfeasance should never be forgotten...

Uh Oh Nancy

More good news in Iraq...
'Bomb deaths have gone down 30 percent in Baghdad since the U.S.-led security crackdown began a month ago. Execution-style slayings are down by nearly half.

The once frequent sound of weapons has been reduced to episodic, and downtown shoppers have returned to outdoor markets — favored targets of car bombers.

There are signs of progress in the campaign to restore order in Iraq, starting with its capital city.'

Democrats getting nervous?

"Who will surrender first - the dems or the terrorists?"

Putting your hopes on terrorists never pays...

But the unethical seem increasingly desperate to undermine:
'Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has launched an online petition drive to rally support for legislation he co-sponsored to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by next March.'

Hillary Rodham Clinton with another whopper...
'This includes her recent appearance in Selma, Ala., in which she reinvented her own past. Clinton, speaking at Selma's First Baptist Church on the 42nd anniversary of the "bloody Sunday" freedom march there, declared: "As a young girl [age 16], I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. King speak in Chicago. The year was 1963. My youth minister from our church took a few of us down on a cold January night to hear [King]. ...And he called on us, he challenged us that evening to stay awake during the great revolution that the civil rights pioneers were waging on behalf of a more perfect union."

That all sounds great, except that the young Hillary went on the following year to become a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Clinton's commencement address, made at Wellesley as a student, did not mention civil rights. She and her handlers are so afraid of Obama that they were implying the existence long ago of a teenager in Chicago's suburbs who never really existed.'

Are you ready for this one?

Now Hillary wants to stay in Iraq!
'Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton foresees a “remaining military as well as political mission” in Iraq, and says that if elected president, she would keep a reduced but significant military force there to fight Al Qaeda, deter Iranian aggression, protect the Kurds and possibly support the Iraqi military.'

The unethical Clinton dance continues.

Up, down, left, right, backwards, forwards, inside, outside, always demeaning, terribly shrill, constantly deceitful, divisive at every turn.

INSIDE JOB?

'Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, confessed to that attack and a string of others during a military hearing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a transcript released Wednesday by the Pentagon.

Mohammed claimed responsibility for planning, financing, and training others for bombings ranging from the 1993 attack at the World Trade Center to the attempt by would-be shoe bomber Richard Reid to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight with explosives hidden in his shoes.

In all, Mohammed said he was responsible for planning 29 individual attacks, including many that were never executed. The comments were included in a 26-page transcript released by the Pentagon, which also blacked out some of his remarks.'

Lefty Loons must create a new 9-11 conspiracy theory.

Perhaps liberals will suggest, the Bush Administration forced this incredible confession with brutal forms of torture.

Or, maybe the moonbats can produce a more inspiring fantasy, where al Qaeda was merely a secret CIA scam all along?

LIE CHEAT STEAL

"It is 'let's start afresh' and every president has done that."

Hillary has such an interesting sense of humor...

"As it happens, Mrs. Clinton is just the Senator to walk point on this issue of dismissing U.S. attorneys because she has direct personal experience. In any Congressional probe of the matter, we'd suggest she call herself as the first witness--and bring along Webster Hubbell as her chief counsel.

As everyone once knew but has tried to forget, Mr. Hubbell was a former partner of Mrs. Clinton at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock who later went to jail for mail fraud and tax evasion. He was also Bill and Hillary Clinton's choice as Associate Attorney General in the Justice Department when Janet Reno, his nominal superior, simultaneously fired all 93 U.S. Attorneys in March 1993. Ms. Reno--or Mr. Hubbell--gave them 10 days to move out of their offices.

At the time, President Clinton presented the move as something perfectly ordinary: "All those people are routinely replaced," he told reporters, "and I have not done anything differently." In fact, the dismissals were unprecedented: Previous Presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, had both retained holdovers from the previous Administration and only replaced them gradually as their tenures expired. This allowed continuity of leadership within the U.S. Attorney offices during the transition.

Equally extraordinary were the politics at play in the firings. At the time, Jay Stephens, then U.S. Attorney in Chicago, was investigating then Ways and Means Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, and was "within 30 days" of making a decision on an indictment. Mr. Rostenkowski, who was shepherding the Clinton's economic program through Congress, eventually went to jail on mail fraud charges and was later pardoned by Mr. Clinton.

Also at the time, allegations concerning some of the Clintons' Whitewater dealings were coming to a head. By dismissing all 93 U.S. Attorneys at once, the Clintons conveniently cleared the decks to appoint "Friend of Bill" Paula Casey as the U.S. Attorney for Little Rock. Ms. Casey never did bring any big Whitewater indictments, and she rejected information from another FOB, David Hale, on the business practices of the Arkansas elite including Mr. Clinton. When it comes to "politicizing" Justice, in short, the Bush White House is full of amateurs compared to the Clintons."

MORE CLINTON COMEDY

"There's evidence of political interference and political pressure being put on them to engage in partisan political activities." Clinton added there were "so many examples of an abuse of power, of going in and removing people not on the basis of performance but, in fact, because they were performing well, they were fulfilling their responsibilities as a U.S. attorney, and that wasn't within the political agenda of the administration."

When Clinton's husband took office in 1993, one of the first actions his attorney general took was to remove every U.S. attorney. Clinton was asked how this was different from the termination of eight U.S. attorneys last December.

"There is a great difference," Clinton said. "When a new president comes in, a new president gets to clean house. It's not done on a case-by-case basis where you didn't do what some senator or member of Congress told you to do in terms of investigations into your opponents. It is 'Let's start afresh' and every president has done that."

Anyone NOT laughing yet?

Aren't pathetic liars amusing?

Does Ms. Rodham even know what an 'abuse of power' means?

'Let's start afresh', by not having another Clinton White House...

'Didn’t Bill Clinton’s brand new Attorney General Janet Reno demand resignations from all 93 U.S. attorneys on March 24, 1993? Wouldn’t that fact be relevant to the story? Wouldn’t it have the effect of lessening the oh-my-God hyperbole on the front page if the reader was shown that what Bush did was one-tenth as dramatic as what Team Clinton did?'

"So if anybody tells you there is no vast, right-wing conspiracy, tell them that New Hampshire has proven it in court," Hillary said.

The Captain:
"Well, I'm sure that will sell with the nuts in her party already inclined to believe in conspiracy theories. There was a time when honorable politicians refused to pander to that crowd, leaving them for Lyndon LaRouche and other fringe demagogues. Hillary may have a harder time selling it after she had her VRWC fantasies blow up in her face in the form of a stained blue dress, and an admission from her husband that he'd played her for a fool while she defended his honor on national television.

One might think that a candidate for national office would avoid recalling such an example of paranoia and gullibility. SICKENING

Gitmo's Guerrilla Lawyers
'How an unscrupulous legal and PR campaign changed the way the world looks at Guantanamo.'
BY DEBRA BURLINGAME

It turns out that Shearman & Sterling, a 1,000-lawyer firm with offices in 19 cities all over the world, has substantial business dealings on six continents. Indeed, Shearman's client care for Middle Eastern matters has established a new industry standard: The firm's Abu Dhabi office states that it has pioneered the concept of "Shariah-compliant" financing. In Kuwait, the firm has represented the government on a wide variety of matters involving billions of dollars worth of assets. So the party underwriting the litigation on behalf of the Kuwaiti 12--from which all of the detainees have benefited--is one of Shearman & Sterling's most lucrative OPEC accounts.

Shearman & Sterling did far more than just write legal briefs and shuttle down to Gitmo to conduct interviews about alleged torture for the BBC. In addition to its legal services, the firm registered as an agent of a foreign principal under the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938 (FARA) as well as the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 (LDA) to press the Kuwaiti detainees' cause on Capitol Hill. Shearman reported $749,980 in lobbying fees under FARA for one six-month period in 2005 and another $200,000 under the LDA over a one-year period between 2005 and 2006. Those are the precise time periods when Congress was engaged in intense debates over the Detainee Treatment Act and the Military Commissions Act, legislation which Shearman & Sterling and its Kuwaiti paymasters hoped would pave the way for shutting down Guantanamo permanently and setting their clients free.

Mr. Wilner, a media-savvy lawyer who immediately realized that the detainee cases posed a tremendous PR challenge in the wake of September 11, hired high-stakes media guru Richard Levick to change public perception about the Kuwaiti 12. Mr. Levick, a former attorney whose Washington, D.C.-based "crisis PR" firm has carved out a niche in litigation-related issues, has represented clients as varied as Rosie O'Donnell, Napster, and the Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Levick's firm is also registered under FARA as an agent of a foreign principal for the "Kuwaiti Detainees Committee," reporting $774,000 in fees in a one year period. After the U.S. Supreme Court heard the first consolidated case, the PR campaign went into high gear, Mr. Levick wrote, to "turn the Guantanamo tide."

'The court prevented the defense from impeaching Tim Russert: The NBC anchorman, who has a law degree, testified he did not know a lawyer could not accompany a witness before the grand jury. The defense then exhumed three clips where Russert had said on the air that a lawyer cannot go into the grand jury with his client. The judge would not allow the jury to hear that other honorable people sometimes forget or misspeak when being grilled on the witness stand.

The court permitted Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald to refer to Valerie Plame as being “covert” or having a “classified” job throughout trial and specifically during closing argument. Neither of those highly prejudicial characterizations was proven at trial. Even if Plame’s job were “classified,” as Fitzgerald reiterated in his press conference after conviction, there is no criminal violation in publishing her name. That legal gap is why Congress passed the Intelligence Identities Protection Act in 1982.'

The Joy of Scrapple

'Free Scooter Libby'

'Sordid the episode is, but not because of anything Libby did. And "a troubling picture" of Washington it is-but not of this Administration. The Bush crowd is guilty only of terminal naiveté and the foolish idea that high standards of probity will ever beat the opposition's utter unscrupulousness and willingness to misuse the legal system to their own partisan ends, even if it means the ruination of an innocent and capable man and enormous hardship to his family.

Democrats and the Media, I Call for Justice.'

The NY Post...
"In fact, Fitzgerald throughout the case seemed to violate a central rule set down by the judge: Valerie Plame Wilson's actual status at the CIA was wholly irrelevant to the charges against Libby. Whether or not she was a covert agent - meaning disclosure of her name might be a crime - didn't matter.

Yet Fitzgerald broadly suggested that Libby had been "discussing something ...that could lead to people being killed."

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid was quick to hail yesterday's verdict, saying: "It's about time someone in the Bush administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics."

But nothing at the trial even hinted at the administration having manipulated intelligence.

In the end, the jury seemed wholly confused by the case. Indeed, just an hour before delivering its verdict, after 10 days of deliberations, the jurors were sending out notes trying to figure out precisely what Libby was accused of having done."

The Democrat Left is trying to criminalize political opponents.

All Americans, should be deeply concerned...

The WSJ has more:
'Rather, he has been convicted of telling the truth about Mr. Wilson and Ms. Plame to some reporters but then not owning up to it. One tragic irony is that if Mr. Libby had only taken the Harold Ickes grand-jury strategy and said "I don't recall," he probably never would have been indicted. But our guess is that he tried to cooperate with the grand jury because he never really believed he had anything to hide. This may also explain why Mr. Libby never retained an experienced Beltway attorney until he was indicted.

None of this has stopped critics of the war from trying to blow this entire case into something far larger. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hailed the conviction as proof that the White House tried to "manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics." But the charges against Mr. Libby had nothing to do with intelligence, and Mr. Wilson was himself so discredited by summer 2004 that the John Kerry campaign dropped him as a spokesman once the Senate exposed his deceit.'

The Lies Continue

'CBS and NBC managed to connect Libby to the Reagan years. “Guilty,” Katie Couric teased at the top of the CBS Evening News, “the highest ranking White House official found guilty of a felony since the Iran-Contra scandal." Over on the NBC Nightly News, Kelly O'Donnell echoed: "What happened here today makes Lewis 'Scooter' Libby the highest-ranking White House official convicted of a felony since the Reagan era and the Iran-Contra scandal.”

CBS's Gloria Borger ominously concluded: "The prosecutor said there was a cloud over the Vice President's office. And today he said it's still there. Only now, Katie, it may be darker." Bob Schieffer soon piled on: “I think it's going to hurt the administration because it's going to raise new questions about their credibility when they already have more problems on their plate than they can really handle right now." On ABC, Vargas picked up on how “Joe Wilson...said today he wants Karl Rove fired from the White House. Do you think that might happen?"'

Political Manipulation

The mighty Sweetness & Light...
'Look Who’s Posting On Huffington Post — The Libby Juror'

Do some Liberal Editors at the WAPO have remorse?
'A bipartisan investigation by the Senate intelligence committee subsequently established that all of these claims were false — and that Mr. Wilson was recommended for the Niger trip by Ms. Plame, his wife. When this fact, along with Ms. Plame’s name, was disclosed in a column by Robert D. Novak, Mr. Wilson advanced yet another sensational charge: that his wife was a covert CIA operative and that senior White House officials had orchestrated the leak of her name to destroy her career and thus punish Mr. Wilson.

The partisan furor over this allegation led to the appointment of special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Yet after two years of investigation, Mr. Fitzgerald charged no one with a crime for leaking Ms. Plame’s name. In fact, he learned early on that Mr. Novak’s primary source was former deputy secretary of state Richard L. Armitage, an unlikely tool of the White House. The trial has provided convincing evidence that there was no conspiracy to punish Mr. Wilson by leaking Ms. Plame’s identity — and no evidence that she was, in fact, covert.

It would have been sensible for Mr. Fitzgerald to end his investigation after learning about Mr. Armitage. Instead, like many Washington special prosecutors before him, he pressed on, pursuing every tangent in the case. In so doing he unnecessarily subjected numerous journalists to the ordeal of having to disclose confidential sources or face imprisonment. One, Judith Miller of the New York Times, lost several court appeals and spent 85 days in jail before agreeing to testify. The damage done to journalists’ ability to obtain information from confidential government sources has yet to be measured.

Mr. Wilson’s case has besmirched nearly everyone it touched. The former ambassador will be remembered as a blowhard.'

THE FOOL DENIES

It takes a very wimpy, deceitful, weakling to claim they did not say, what they actually did say, (especially when it was recorded on video):

MAHER FUDGES VP DEATH WISH

...Yesterday, Maher denied he "advocates the whacking of our veep." In a statement on the Huffington Post, he also said, "I don't wish him dead."

...But L. Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center, heard it differently. "Bill Maher is a vile and repugnant human being," he told us. "Anyone who wishes for the death of the vice president in a time of war is, at best, a very sick puppy."

...ABC decided not to renew Maher's contract for "Politically Incorrect" in 2002 after he'd defended the supposed bravery of the 9/11 terrorists by saying, "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly. Stupid maybe but not cowardly."

Democrats For 'Running Away'

'House Democratic leaders on Tuesday implored their rank and file to stick together as the debate intensified over the financing and direction of the Iraq war, saying a fractured party would impede the overarching goal of bringing the conflict to a close.

As Congress considers President Bush’s $93.4 billion spending request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, Democrats are struggling to reach agreement over what conditions should be placed on war financing. Among the sticking points is whether the legislation should include a specific date for a withdrawal from Iraq.'

Regardless of the impact on the Arab Region, the security of the Free Iraqis, the future of the Free World...

Someone should inform these unethical Democrats, and the NY Times, this 'conflict' will not end if the USA abandons the Iraqi People.

ABSURD

'Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was convicted Tuesday of obstruction, perjury and lying to the FBI in an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity.'

If Bill Clinton was a Republican, he would be in prison right now...
"The criminalization of non-DNC approved politics is just about complete..."

Travesty:
'Now we remember why Democrats are so much more eager than Republicans to criminalize politics: Because they know that the ultimate power over the lives and liberties of the contestants is held by juries drawn from the most Democratic jurisdiction in the country. Would Scooter have been convicted - would a prosecutor ever have dared to try him - if the capital of the United States were located in say Indianapolis?'

More understandable outrage:
'This morning the jury didn't understand two of the counts. Yesterday it didn't understand what was meant by reasonable doubt. Let me suggest that in the end it still didn't understand the two counts or reasonable doubt.

Please, spare me the lectures about the jury system and a fair trial. This case should never have seen the inside of a courtroom. The witnesses were universally pathetic. The judge was overly restrictive in the testimony he allowed on behalf of the defense. But most of all, I object to this case because it was political from beginning to end. Patrick Fitzgerald's closing argument was as much about Dick Cheney and George Bush as Libby. He wanted the jurors to consider the war. He wanted them to look at more than the evidence. So, it's perfectly legitimate for some of us to conclude that they did. We might call this jury nullifcation in reverse.

There has been considerable damage done to traditional Justice Department procedures, the free press, and the political system by this nothing-burger of a case.'

The Captain:
'Not to say that Libby should have been let off the hook, if he indeed lied to investigators and the grand jury, as this jury concluded he did. Regardless of the pettiness of the probe, people cannot be allowed to lie to the police or under oath at hearings and trials. It undermines our system of justice even more than out-of-control special prosecutors.

Of course, I made this same argument in 1998, when Bill Clinton committed perjury during another court case. I notice that his defenders at the time now want to string up not just Libby, but also Dick Cheney, despite (a) Cheney breaking no laws, and (b) their formerly cavalier attitude towards perjury -- which Cheney never committed. Why would they want to impeach Cheney for not committing perjury, when they fought the impeachment of Bill Clinton after he indisputably committed perjury? (He pled guilty to it, in case some don't recall.)

Those who want Cheney's hide will argue that he engineered the Plame leak, but that's ludicrous. The last person in this administration who would have done Cheney's bidding is Richard Armitage. He made clear at the time and at every opportunity since how much distaste he has for the VP and his staff.'

Reportedly, Sen. Clinton’s staff "exploded” over Spitzer’s refusal to endorse her candidacy for president during a visit to Washington last week.

"Hillary’s people were really upset by Spitzer, and they called his people ... to make that clear,” a Spitzer insider told the New York Post.

The Post’s "Inside Albany” columnist Fred Dicker quoted a senior Democrat who disclosed that the Clinton camp "exploded - really went crazy” over Spitzer’s non-endorsement.

In another sign of trouble, the Clinton campaign is increasingly concerned over the reluctance of many of New York’s African - American political leaders to back her for president, Dicker reports.

"She’s slipping in the polls, has a problem with blacks, [Sen. Barack] Obama is gaining, and then she has the governor of her own state equivocating on whether he’ll back her,” said the senior Democrat.

Latest War Strategy?

The 'run away' plans to surrender aren't working?

Then focus on your unethical war against Republicans for awhile...
A House Judiciary subcommittee approved today the first in what is expected to be an avalanche of subpoenas to Bush administration officials. They will likely explore corruption and mismanagement allegations on everything from pre-war Iraq intelligence to the mishandling of the response to Hurricane Katrina.

The first round of subpoenas concern the recent controversial firings by the Bush administration of seven U.S. attorneys, some of whom were pursuing public corruption cases against Republican members of Congress.

THE BIG GREEN SWINDLE

Al has more invested than just Oscar Gold...
As the controversy over global warming doomsayer Al Gore’s voracious energy-eater mansion rolls on, there’s an angle I think merits deeper investigation than it is currently getting. While much of the focus has been on whether or not Gore is an environmental hypocrite, the story has raised the profile of the role of “carbon offsets” in achieving a “greener,” more environmentally friendly world.

In its original story, The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville reported that Gore buys “carbon offsets” to compensate for his home’s use of energy from carbon-based fuels. What is a “carbon offset,” exactly? Essentially, it’s a payment someone makes to an environmentally friendly entity to compensate for personally using non-green energy...

...So far, so good. So, where does Gore buy his ‘carbon offsets’? According to The Tennessean newspaper’s report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management. a company he co-founded and serves as chairman:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe...

Another manipulative 'fear - guilt' induced money making scheme...

ht: the KING... "Why the Gore Story Matters"

The impressive Mr. Taranto:
'So, let's sum this up: Here we have a major American politician who is calling for policies that would impose huge costs on society but appears to be profiting handsomely himself; who is leading an extravagant lifestyle while demanding sacrifices from ordinary people; and who is calling on the media to suppress the views of those with whom he disagrees, while at the same time urging more government regulation in the name of "fairness" to his partisan and ideological allies.'

Of course, the MSM would never tell the trusting public...

Liberal Partisans controlling the MSM do not care about the swindler, the grifter, the scam artist, the con artist, if they are a Democrat.

The amazing Anchoress has more:
"Honestly, I’m really starting to think it can’t be bias. I think even a biased journalist can appreciate when his turf is being intruded upon and trampled by a marauding politician."

UPDATE: the mighty Sweetness & Light...
"Gore is chairman of the firm and, presumably, draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he “buys” his “carbon offsets” from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn’t buy “carbon offsets” through Generation Investment Management–he buys stocks..."

If you are planning to 'save the world', you should at least inform everyone, you are going to financially benefit from your efforts.

Even more...
'Former Vice President Al Gore has built a Green money-making machine capable of eventually generating billions of dollars for investors, including himself, but he set it up so that the average Joe can't afford to play on Gore's terms. And the US portion is headed up by a former Gore staffer and fund raiser who previously ran afoul of both the FEC and the DOJ, before Janet Reno jumped in and shut down an investigation during the Clinton years.'

Democrats Harm Free Choice

'Sure enough - only two Dems were willing to stand up to the unions' pressure, Gene Taylor of Mississippi and Dan Boren of Oklahoma. Keep that in mind next time you hear nonsense in the press about "Blue Dog" Democrats, "conservative" Democrats, and next time you hear anyone try to tell you that the Democrats care anything about working men and women.'

Truly pathetic...
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 1, 2007 – Responding to passage of a House bill stripping away the right of American workers to vote in a private, secret ballot election when deciding to unionize, National Association of Manufacturers President John Engler warned that this legislation “infringes upon America’s democratic principles, and we vow to fight this legislation in the Senate.”

In a 241-185 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 800, a bill that would replace a federally supervised secret ballot election with a public process called “card check.” This legislation would leave all employees vulnerable to coercion and intimidation during union organizing drives and, for those employees not asked to sign a card, gives them no option to choose, Engler explained.

“The NAM and our members intend to remind them that we take employee rights seriously,” Engler continued. “If employees want to unionize, we should guarantee them a fair and private choice in the matter. Federally supervised secret ballot elections do just that.

“Employees are our greatest asset, and manufacturers are committed to protecting their rights and benefits,” Engler added. “In this aim, we will not falter from our goal.”

Promise & Progress

The essential Mr. Peters...
* Of the five additional U.S. brigades headed for Baghdad, only one is in place, with the second starting to arrive. Yet the city is already quieter and safer. The terrorists continue to detonate their bombs - with suicidal fanatics targeting the innocent - but sectarian killings (death-squad hits) have dropped from over 50 each night down to single digits.

* The tactic of stationing U.S. units and their Iraqi counterparts down in the Baghdad 'hoods is already paying off. (It should have been used from the outset - instead of hunkering down on massive bases. But better late than never.) The effort has triggered a flood of intelligence tips: When citizens feel safe, they cooperate. And when they help us, our success compounds.

* U.S. commanders now have a lot of experience in Iraq. They're not wide-eyed kids at the circus anymore. They understand there are no uniform, easy answers to Iraq's violence and complex allegiances. As a senior officer put it, "Every neighborhood and city is unique, with their own challenges."

I'll leave it to The New York Times to betray our military secrets, and just say I'm very impressed by the insight shown by our brigade and battalion commanders these days.

* We hear the bad news from the rest of Iraq, such as this week's monstrous car bombing of children at play on a soccer field in Ramadi, but we don't hear that such attacks by al Qaeda operatives have infuriated mainstream Sunni sheiks and their tribes - who increasingly make common cause with us and their government. And winning over the Sunni "middle" is crucial to Iraq's future.

* We'll never stop all suicide bombers and car bombers, but our security crackdown has already taken out two major Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) factories. And we took down a huge arms cache late last week.

More from the Captain...
Bullish On The Iraqis

'With most of American politics focused on the troop surge and partisan maneuverings over its implementation, another story has gotten lost: The Iraqis themselves have made important progress in a basic economic issue that has fueled the sectarian divide.'

Will today's misguided Democrats, claim to have supported the fight for a Free Iraq in the future, just as some falsely suggested they embraced President Reagan's policies in the Cold War?

Perhaps right now, the Democrat Party is working to create some nonbinding nonsense to deny future victory.

The Old Swindle

The mighty Powerline...
'The secret ballot is a fundamental tenet of any effective democracy, and has been part of American labor law for many years. There is no possible explanation for why the Democrats want to abolish the secret ballot, other than the truth: they are trying to enable coercion and intimidation by union thugs. As Brian Kennedy put it, "this bill will effectively limit worker choices to joining a union or having their knee-caps broken." The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves.'

And the KING...
'Why? The Democrat Party is owned by Big Labor which is "is desperate." Membership has shrunk to 7.5 percent of the workforce, and much of that are government employees who have no choice. Another example of Democrat Party principle.'

Even more:
The state's largest teachers union is pushing legislation that would, in effect, allow unions to spend fees paid by nonmembers on political campaigns without first getting permission.

Lenin would be proud...
